GPX Audit

Upload a GPX file to see its quality flags, its spatial resolution and the MT level it supports. The audit runs in your browser and requires a free account. Your file and its report are stored by Metric Trails, as described in the privacy notice. The audit does not correct or standardise the track.

The checks replicate read_stream(), uniform_stream(), sanitize_stream() and resolution_stream() from the metrictrails R package (version 1.0.0) with its default thresholds. Distances are horizontal and computed in the WGS 84 / UTM zone of the track. The Nyquist resolution is the 90th percentile of the distance between consecutive readings, excluding idle readings (under 0.1 m).

Who we are

Metric Trails is a research lab led by Raimundo Sanchez. This notice covers GPX Audit at metrictrails.com.

What we collect

When you create an account, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google. When you audit a file, we store the GPX file, the audit report, the date and time of the audit, and the browser used.

How we use it

We use your data to provide the audit, to maintain and improve our methods, to understand how the audit is used, and for scientific research on trail running and human movement.

Scientific use

Data used in research is anonymised before any analysis is shared or published. Names and email addresses are never published. Tracks are not published in a form that could identify a person or their home, such as the start and end of a track. Your data stays within Metric Trails.

Where it is stored

Data is stored on Cloudflare infrastructure. We do not sell your data or share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep your data until you ask us to delete it.

Your choices

You can ask us to delete your account and all your files at any time by writing to hello@metrictrails.com. Data already included in published anonymised results cannot be withdrawn from those results.

If this notice changes, we will update this page and the date below, and ask you to accept the new version.
